First Insurance, Now Astrology Predicts Erectile Dysfunction

Okay. Being a Scorpio (I admit it) I couldn't pass up this post. It seems that insurance companies are not the only corporations using Astrology to make predictions. This is a press release from Firstmed, self described as "the UK's leading online impotence clinic". What does that mean exactly? How do you treat human beings with a problem so sensitive and personal ONLINE? I get that you have a certain amount of anonymity online that you wouldn't have sitting across from 12 other people in a waiting room, but how do you treat the individual?

The plus for this type of company in terms of target audience is pretty clear. Gather leads based on birth dates and target your advertising towards those folks heavily. The press release does not say how many were involved in their study or over what period of time it took place.

Also, in the release, they state that this might give some insight into the psychological reasons behind ED. You think that if they actually communicated with their "clients" that they might find some insight? Obviously I believe that Astrology is a valuable tool, and can give a huge amount of psychological and other information about a person. However, Astrology is more than just the Sun Sign. It is naive and misleading to believe this study really shows anything psychological about their clients. If anything, Capricorn, with their natural stamina, want to extend their natural "talents".

Out of detective-like curiosity (did I mention I am a Scorpio) I went to Firstmed's website. Their title on the bar of my browser says: "Buy Cialis, Viagra, Levitra Online | Male erectile dysfunction / Impotence Clinic UK". Why, I would venture to guess that this company is no more than the spammers that swamp my corporate inbox daily. It's a way for people to score some sex candy. As you probably know, most of the people who use these drugs and purchase them online, don't actually suffer from ED, they just want more stamina. One of these pills isn't called the "weekender" for nothing!

ED drugs are about the only drugs where the side effects are actually appealing and a selling point! "4 hours or longer" and "7 hours or longer". Here's the PR, reposted so I don't have to link to their silly release for their cash cow.

Capricorns Come in Last According to New Firstmed Consulting Studies

There are many known disadvantages to celebrating a birthday around the Christmas season -- joint birthday/Christmas presents, people unavailable on the big night due to office parties etc. Less known is that according to recent studies, those born around Christmas may have a higher probability of erectile difficulties.

(PRWeb) December 28, 2006 -- It seems that feeling upstaged by the biggest holiday of the year may have more of an effect on the male ego than we previously realized. Studies conducted by Firstmed Consulting, a UK online ED clinic which focused on the star-signs of their customers, reveal that Capricorns are by far the highest suffers of the medical condition.

Often described as one of the most stable and serious of the zodiacal types, Capricorns are said to be patient and prudent, ambitious and disciplined, over conventional and rigid. These independent, rock-like characters may have many sterling qualities but the ability to maintain an erection may not be one of them. Whether you believe in astrology or not, characteristics attributed to Capricorns such as being pessimistic and fatalistic, may well give us insight into the psychological causes of ED. Many men react to an occasional episode of erectile dysfunction by becoming more anxious, which results in further sexual problems, hence more anxiety. This is called the "impotence domino effect" of anxiety - failure - more anxiety - more failure.

At the other end of the scale, living up to their reputation as a fire sign, it was the Sagittarians who emerged victorious. Sagittarians are said to posses a strongly idealistic nature, capable of suffering many disappointments without being affected. Perhaps it is this optimistic nature that allows them to avoid the anxiety that consumes other men following an occasional episode of ED

See below to see how the rest fared.

Abuse of the ED drugs is a much serious and discussed topic. Levitra is often dubbed as the safest of the lot. Unfortunately it has its share of side-effects and very effective ones at that. A few months back, the FDA asked the manufacturers of levitra to make amends to its labels and declare that the drug might adversely affect a person’s eyesight and hearing.
