When it Comes to Blogging, This Chick Writes Like a Dude

One of the first things I want to hit upon my return to Astrology Talk, is style of writing. Have you ever read something and you automatically assume things about the writer? I have been told my poetry is far too Neptunian for the liking of some Virgos. It's true, I have a strong Neptune and a lot of my poetry is pretty 'dreamy'.

On the flip side, I have read items and assumed the writer was a man or a woman. We all have done this. Come on, fess up. There's no shame in it. Toss out the "PC" thinking and face facts. We make these assumptions daily.

Well, no more guessing! Inspired by a New York Times article, the Gender Genie will tell all... Or will it? You can test a piece of fiction, nonfiction or a blog entry for the gender of the author.

I took a few of my own posts to test the results:

Mars and the Revamped Volvo Logo

Words: 391
Female Score: 303
Male Score: 576
The Gender Genie thinks the author of this passage is: male!

> Apparently my excessive use of the masculine words "what", "as" and "the" outweigh my excessive use of the feminine "with".

The Butterfly Effect and Astrology

Words: 541
Female Score: 268
Male Score: 856
The Gender Genie thinks the author of this passage is: male!

> "More", "are", "the" and "a" were my only words that had a score over 100... And they were all weighted as masculine.

No. NO! Not on a Void Moon!!!

Words: 625
Female Score: 522
Male Score: 835
The Gender Genie thinks the author of this passage is: male!

> The offending "what" and "the" don't outweigh the female "with" and "be".

They say that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, but expecting different results. Guess I should just face facts. I write like a dude. I wonder if this Gender Genie, which was spot on with most of the other authors who tried it, is like handwriting analysis.

Even if you try to disguise your handwriting, it's still you. If I tried to disguise my writing, would I be more feminine?

Try it out! The Gender Genie is lots of fun. Let me know how it goes!

Long Time No See

I apologize for the delay in keeping up with Astrology Talk. A lot has happened and I went into a Scorpio Brain Freeze. But, great news! I am back, full throttle ahead and back on the keyboard! (Graphic from Betty Bowers hysterical website)

Since I last wrote:

* My parents took a holiday and booked a cruise around the Greek Islands. In an odd twist, they were on the Sea Diamond, which SANK off the coast of Santorini. They survived with a lot less luggage, but a lot of thankfulness! View the WikiPedia article and the CNN photos! Also, and interesting Conspiracy Theory about the sinking.

* Anna Nicole Smith's love child found her father... ish.

* Anna Nicole's journals sold to a publisher for over $500k. They wanted the rights, and now are planning on putting them back up just for collectors to bid on. They expect to get the same amount, minus one zero. On the heels of this, in an insomniac moment, I decided to try my hand at domain names and selling them on eBay. I just saw that some pretty scant names sold for $1 million and $2.8 million. YIKES! Of course, all of mine went unsold, but if you want to buy them, let me know and I will give you a list of the names, etc. They are all valued between $1500 and $45k. But what does that mean really? That people who are truly uncreative will buy your stuff? Hmmm. They are only worth what someone will pay for them.

* Boris Yeltsin dies, the same day and way that is described in a book I started reading, which took place in 1999.

* I FINALLY took my first personal days from my J.O.B. in two years. And yes, the world fell apart without me!

* I have hit a new stride of creativity and grandiose ideas. Soon, I will have my own store front for my Snapology project and other goodies. Stay tuned.

* We are fixing up the old homestead. You should see the cafe mocha/cappuccino walls now! They look spiffy!

* My SO got a ticket for having a plastic plate cover over the license plates. Went to court, and out it went. A true testament to a waste of government dollars. (There were several other folks with the same ticket.) My question is: Why is THIS a $405 ticket, but going 65 in a 30 mile zone is only $250?

Anyway, more, I am sure that I have not listed, but you KNOW what happened, so let's just move on, shall we?
